Perbacco, San Francisco

Financial District of San Francisco

Financial District of San Francisco

In this the epicenter of all that is holy in foodie-land, it is not sufficient for a restaurant to call itself Italian if it is to lay claim upon the foodie’s attention. Sicilian? Yes. Piedmontese? Sure. Tuscan? So early 2009. It is hard to believe that there are many folks here who can tell a Tuscan meatball from a Piedmontese meatball. We most certainly cannot. So when we set out for Perbacco, it was just with the expectation of some good food. And boy, they did not disappoint.

We went to Perbacco for a weekday lunch. Lunch? Yes. You see, we were planning to go to Ad Hoc for dinner the same day. Playing hooky from work too. Now feel free to hate us.

Puffed flatbread, stuffed with spiced peas, ready to eat

Puffed flatbread, stuffed with spiced peas, ready to eat

Flatbread stuffed with peas (matar paratha) is a wholesome meal. If made correctly, it can provide protein and sufficient fiber while being low on fats and simple carbohydrates. A plate of papdi chaat

A plate of papdi chaat

Everyone knows a taco truck in California – the truck that come rolling around with sounds of simple jingles and sells fresh Mexican staples with their mouthwatering salsas. Fresh, yummy and cheap is what a good taco truck fare is.

My question is this – what not an Indian version of the same serving chaat and tea?

In the afternoon, when my vampire’s nest (I call my windowless, sunless, fluorescent tube lit, office cubicle that) is at its dullest, I often find myself craving for some samosa and chai. On a winter afternoon, when the incessant rain is doing its worst damage to your mood, a plateful of samosa is the only escape. Sex would be better but samosa is safer. Surely.

Desi Coke

Coke may not reveal their formula, but so won’t we … of the Masala Coke that is. First, tandoori chicken pizza with raw onions and green chillies from Pizza Hut, and now coke with chaat masala added to it. Both marked improvements on the original products.
